Trades and Apprenticeships

Trade work with us is not average trade work – it is unique and challenging.

Our tradespeople work on some of the most sophisticated defence vessels in Australia: the Collins Class submarines and the Hobart Class air warfare destroyers.

We strongly encourage professional development.  Many of our tradespeople commence their career in one discipline, acquire more skills and education, then take off in unexpected and satisfying directions.

Apprenticeships
 
Apprenticeships with ASC are based on operational requirements and generally include electrical, mechanical and fabrication trades. Opportunities to maximise individual development on the program is supported through world class mentoring, supervision, training and work on some of Australia’s largest defence projects.

Eligibility Requirement
 
All applicants should have attained a minimum of Year 11 SACE Stage 1 or currently undertaking SACE Stage 2 with good results in Maths, English, Science (Physics/Chemistry) and/or Technical Studies.

Personal attributes that ASC look for in an apprentice include:
• An interest in the selected trade through work experience, project work at home and any hobby / interests;
• A desire to learn a range of new skills associated with the trade;
• A commitment to self development; and
• A commitment to quality and attention to detail.

All applicants must be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
