ASC Pty Ltd is saddened by the passing of General John Baker AC DSM late yesterday afternoon.
A valued member of the company’s
Board and Audit Committee, General Baker was appointed a Director of ASC on 1 July 2002. He played an important role on the Board that oversaw ASC’s transition from submarine construction to maintenance, and expansion into naval shipbuilding.

Mr John Prescott AC said ASC was privileged to have General Baker’s expertise on its Board.
“ASC was most fortunate to have benefited from General Baker’s distinguished career in the
Australian Defence Force, and his broader leadership qualities,” Mr Prescott said.
“He brought considerable defence and leadership expertise to his directorship and provided enormous support to the Board in its deliberations; his contribution was widely appreciated.
“I believe all our directors and senior executives admired his strength, professionalism and commitment to ASC. This was unwavering throughout his time on the Board. We especially appreciated his ability to focus succinctly on the challenges we had to address; notably for both the
Collins and
Hobart Classes.
“On behalf of ASC, I offer my condolences to General Baker’s wife Margaret, and other members of his family.”
