The
Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) Alliance is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Gallacher as Chief Executive Officer.
As CEO, John is accountable for strategic relationships with the AWD Alliance Project Management Board, the customer community and others to ensure delivery of the AWD Program. He also remains CEO of
ASC Shipbuilding.
John was born and educated in Scotland before migrating to Australia. He has over 35 years experience in engineering and construction, project management and shipbuilding and has previously held positions of project manager, state manager, managing director and CEO.
John was CEO of Transfield Shipbuilding WA (now Tenix WA) for over five years, and was Managing Director of Stork Group’s Australian businesses for over seven years. John joined ASC in 2004 and is responsible for ASC Shipbuilding and its role in the Air Warfare Destroyer Program. John is a member of the AWD Alliance Board.
John’s appointment is endorsed unanimously by the AWD Project Management Board and members of the AWD Alliance. John possesses unique experience in the Australian Shipbuilding Industry and has importantly held management positions in industry alliances in the past.
Program Manager of the AWD Program, Mr Warren King, welcomed the choice of leader for the ground breaking Alliance, “Mr Gallacher has demonstrated tremendous leadership and made a valuable contribution to the AWD Alliance since the selection of ASC as the AWD Shipbuilder. His appointment represents another step forward in the development of strong DMO and industry relationships, with an overall objective to deliver outcomes for the defence of Australia.”
Mr John Prescott, Chairman of ASC, said that this wealth of demonstrated experience will prove a valuable asset during this important start-up phase of the Alliance, “The AWD Alliance is fortunate to benefit from John Gallacher’s international experience in major industrial projects, as well as his commitment to the alliance contracting model which lies at the heart of this next generation program."
According to Mr Dan Smith, President of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, the Alliance is a modern business model that melds the strengths of global companies and government to provide the next naval capability for the Commonwealth, “Leadership of this Alliance can be trusted only to a person with great integrity, vision and breadth. John Gallacher is the right man to lead the Alliance in this important challenge.”
Lieutenant-General David Hurley, Chief
Capability Development Executive, also supported the selection, “I am enthusiastic about Mr Gallacher’s appointment and believe that he will be a driving force in creating a strong alliance relationship in this project.”
The AWD Program ensures the timely and efficient delivery of an affordable, effective, flexible and sustainable AWD capability for the security of Australia.
The Program uses an alliance-based contracting strategy for the design and build phase. Under this alliance, the Commonwealth, ASC and Raytheon Australia, work as an integrated team to achieve project objectives.
The AWD Alliance Team includes personnel from the
DMO, ASC and
Raytheon Australia – supported by
Navantia as the Platform System Designer and a range of sub-contractors.
