The $3.5 million contract (per year) is the first significant step for ASC and
Defence Materiel Organisation in their collaborative effort to work together with key suppliers to meet the strategic objectives of submarine through-life support.
Under the new contract, WSHA will provide a core maintenance support team dedicated exclusively to Collins Class submarine maintenance work at ASC’s
South Australian and
Western Australian operations.
According to
Greg Tunny, Managing Director of ASC, the new contract also includes the migration of the existing submarine in-service support contract between the Commonwealth of Australia and WSHA over to ASC.
“Contracting directly through TLS ensures WSHA is able to maintain a long term skills base for Collins Class maintenance, which is becoming increasingly important as demand for resources continues to rise,” said Mr Tunny.
“ASC recognises the importance of ensuring the ongoing support of original equipment manufacturers, in addition to small/medium enterprise suppliers, and is in discussion with other subcontractors to offer similar TLS contracts.”
The new contracting environment with WSHA offers enormous advantages by allowing ASC to prioritise maintenance tasks and eliminate the need for contract negotiations prior to work being undertaken.
