Congratulations HMAS Sheean

1 February 2006

ASC Pty Ltd congratulates the Royal Australian Navy’s submarine community, and the crew of HMAS Sheean, on its recent achievement of HMAS Sheean’s 2005 Gloucester Cup award.

The Gloucester Cup is awarded each year to the major fleet unit or submarine that has been foremost in all aspects of operations, safety, seamanship, reliability and unit level training.

HMAS Sheean is the second Collins Class submarine to be recognised with the annual Gloucester Cup, following HMAS Rankin’s recipience in 2004.

Mr Greg Tunny, Managing Director of ASC, said the award was a reflection of all those who have contributed to the operational support of the vessel, particularly the crew of HMAS Sheean.

“We have known for a long time now that the Collins Class submarines provide an exceptional defence capability and are key elements of Australia’s Defence Force,” Mr Tunny said.

“This award reinforces the capability and consistent performance of the submarines.  ASC is proud to continue its long association with the Collins Class through the provision of through-life support maintenance services.”

As the winner of the 2005 Gloucester Cup, HMAS Sheean is entitled to display the coveted ‘gold star’ for twelve months.
