ASC welcomes the AWD Systems Centre to Adelaide

10 November 2005

Today’s announcement of South Australia as the home to the new headquarters of the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project has been welcomed by ASC Pty Ltd (formerly Australian Submarine Corporation).

Earlier this year, ASC was chosen as the preferred shipbuilder for the AWD program, providing additional employment opportunities for approximately 1,000 people and securing ASC’s naval high-end skills repository.

ASC’s Managing Director Greg Tunny said the decision to establish the AWD Systems Centre in Adelaide ensures the AWD Alliance leadership team will be located close to the centre of gravity of activity, the ASC shipyard.

“This geographic proximity is critical to achieving optimum interaction and collaboration within this complex and challenging project,” said Mr Tunny.

“The AWD program will be of critical national importance to Australia’s security and ASC, as the shipbuilder, looks forward to a close working relationship with the other AWD Alliance participants – Defence Materiel Organisation, Raytheon Australia, Gibbs & Cox and Bath Iron Works.”
