Over 500 secondary South Australian students will take part in the Science@work program over the next 12 months with ASC Pty Ltd (formerly Australian Submarine Corporation) and the Investigator Science Centre.
Science@work is a South Australian initiative designed to introduce high school students to the many science disciplines involved in building
submarines and
air warfare destroyers. As part of the program, students can participate in submarine science related projects, including manoeuvring and control activities with ASC’s submarine simulator.
According to
Greg Tunny, Managing Director of ASC, it’s the students participating in the
Science@work program who could be building submarines or air warfare destroyers in the future.
“ASC is keenly aware of its responsibility to generate interest and support initiatives designed to increase university and TAFE memberships within science and engineering disciplines,” said Mr Tunny.
“South Australia represents a hub of science and engineering challenges, including engineering and technical work on the air warfare destroyers, and the
Science@work program is an ideal opportunity for young students to begin developing an interest in these fields.”
Through the program, secondary school students can work with graduate ASC engineers and evaluate the practical applications of science within the defence industry.
Schools wishing to participate in the
Science@work program should contact the Investigator Science Centre.
