ASC appoints CEO for surface shipbuilding

Australian Submarine Corporation’s Board of Directors has today announced the appointment of Mr John Gallacher as Chief Executive Officer of ASC’s surface shipbuilding business.

Mr Gallacher will report to ASC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Graeme Bulmer, and lead ASC’s shipbuilding activities as a separate entity from ASC’s submarine activities.

Mr Gallacher has held various positions as a project manager, regional manager, director and chief executive officer. Most recently, Mr Gallacher was the Managing Director of the Australian businesses of the Stork Group, a Netherlands-based technology company.

Prior to that he was Chief Executive Officer of Transfield Shipbuilding, WA; a subsidiary of what is now the Tenix Group.

Mr John Prescott AC, Chairman of ASC, said Mr Gallacher brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to ASC.

“Mr Gallacher has a well-established career which has been developed in the management of major industrial projects for the offshore oil and gas industry in England, Scotland and Japan, and in the mineral and petrochemical industries within Australia,” he said.

“Mr Gallacher’s appointment is part of the commitment the Company is making to win and execute naval surface shipbuilding work, including the proposed Air Warfare Destroyer project for the Royal Australian Navy.”

Mr Gallacher will be based in Adelaide.
