Bath Iron Works
General Dynamics subsidiary,
Bath Iron Works (BIW), was engaged in early 2004 to undertake a capability assessment and planning study to identify ASC's strengths and weaknesses to undertake air warfare destroyer design and construction activities.
BIW's experience, gained as the lead designer and builder of the Arleigh Burke Class AEGIS guided missile destroyer for the
United States Navy, enabled them to utilise their own premier standards and procedures to provide valuable planning information for us to respond to the SEA 400 Air Warfare Destroyer Request for Proposal.
Since the 1950s, BIW has served as the lead shipyard for ten surface ship classes produced by the United States Navy - more than any other United States shipyard.
Today, BIW, based in Bath, Maine, is the most technologically advanced surface combatant shipbuilder in the world.
BIW Australia (BIWA) has entered into a strategic partnership with us for the provision of project management, technical and production management support for ASC's role as shipbuilder in Australia's
Hobart Class Air Warfare Destroyer Program.
