Supply Chain Opportunities

The Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project is the most complex ever undertaken by Defence in Australia.  A major aim of this nation-building project is to ensure the benefits to industry are maximised to enhance Australia's strategic industrial base.

While the AWDs will be consolidated at ASC South - our AWD shipyard - 70 percent of hull blocks will be constructed in Newcastle, New South Wales and Williamstown, Victoria.

Australian industry will deliver around 55 percent of the products and services that must be delivered under the AWD Alliance.  This will be followed by high-value through life support contracts with local industry working on maintaining and upgrading the AWDs into the middle of the century.

Industry Capability Portal

The Industry Capability Network of South Australia (ICNSA) hosts a sophisticated industry capability portal on behalf of the AWD Alliance.  It allows for efficient collection and retrieval of data on thousands of companies that wish to register their interest in the AWD project.

ICNSA is the South Australian body of a national network designed to promote and develop opportunities for Australian and New Zealand industry within major projects.  It hosts the suppliers' database on behalf of all states' ICN offices on this national project.

The AWD Alliance's agreement with ICNSA will guarantee all suppliers in the market a level playing field when competing for work with the AWD project.
