This policy identifies ASC’s commitment to integrate environmental requirements into its Corporate Management System to meet its legislative requirements, and to support its contractual obligations and business objectives.
This policy applies to all ASC workers and contractors working at all ASC sites to ensure protection of the environment.
ASC is committed to promoting environmental awareness amongst its workers, contractors and visitors, complying with legislative requirements that support community and socially responsible practices, and ensuring that the overall protection and improvement of the environment is a consideration in all operational activities. The ASC Environmental Management System shall satisfy the requirements of ISO 14001.
Achievement of this policy will be through meeting the following environmental policy objectives:
Implement innovative best practice approaches and continuous improvement to environmental management in achieving corporate business objectives.
Include defined environmental objectives and targets in ASC’s Environmental Management Plan.
Apply a systematic approach to environmental hazard management.
Provide adequate resources for the management of the environment, including the provision of training and information to all personnel working on ASC sites, including contractors and customer representatives.
Implement strategies and systems on ASC sites that prevent pollution.
Plan and conduct audits to verify environmental performance of ASC operations to meet the intent of relevant statutory provisions and best practice.
Applicable Standards, Legislation and Corporate Guidelines
The following identifies relevant State and/or Federal legislation, Standards, Corporate Directives or Guidelines, provide the broad framework for which this policy operates and with which ASC needs to comply.
Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Commonwealth);
National Environment Protection Council Act 1994 (Commonwealth);
Environment Protection Act 1993 (South Australia);
Environmental Protection Act 1986 (Western Australia);
AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004 Environmental management system; and
Environmental Management Plan.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Review
Compliance with the policy will be monitored in association with the Policy Objectives and Targets specified in the Environmental Management Plan. The policy will be reviewed annually by the Executive Safety, Environment and Quality Council.
