Environmental Policy

Purpose

To formally describe ASC’s commitment to environmental best practice through all its activities, products, sites and operations. This document stipulates the principles and requirements that facilitate the control of environmental impacts identified through the organisational context and the agreed policy objectives.

Scope

This policy applies to all ASC Pty Ltd (ASC) activities, employees, and third parties at all ASC-managed sites to ensure the protection of the natural environment and the management of potential impacts associated with ASC’s activities, products, sites and operations.

Policy Statement

ASC is committed to the maintenance and continual improvement of an effective and efficient Environmental Management System (EMS) and practices that comply with government policy, legislation, contractual requirements and stakeholder expectations. ASC’s Executive Committee (ExCo) recognise the importance of ecologically sustainable development, take accountability for the ongoing effectiveness of the EMS and are committed to the application of international best practice principles for both conventional and radiological environmental aspects.

Policy Objectives

  1. Strategically implement processes to promote and deliver objectives relating to the mitigation of both direct and indirect environmental impacts and the need for continual improvement of the EMS.
  2. Ensure the lifecycle impacts of all aspects of ASC’s operations have been identified and mitigated where practical to maintain the protection of the environment and prevention of pollution.
  3. Identify the activities which have the potential to cause environmental harm and use a risk-based approach to implement controls in accordance with the ASC Risk Management Framework.
  4. Set specific, measurable and achievable targets to monitor and improve environmental and sustainability performance across the organisation.
  5. Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, standards, authorisations and, where appropriate, best practice guidelines.
  6. Promote environmental awareness and socially responsible practices amongst ASC, employees, contractors, visitors and business partners.
  7. Identify the effect ASC’s operations may have on internal and external stakeholders, implement proactive strategies to mitigate potential impacts, conserve natural resources and strive to improve the health of the natural environment.
  8. Ensure radiological protection control measures are incorporated into the Nuclear Safety Management System (NSMS) to minimise potential impacts to the natural environment in alignment with ASC’s nuclear safety principles.
