An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia’s submarine company – selected in March 2024 as the sustainer and joint builder of conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines (SSNs) in Australia.

We will have many opportunities for skilled people to live, work and learn in the in the UK for up to 2 years, or in the US for 2-3 years.

You’ll work on cutting-edge nuclear technology and undertake world-leading training, setting you up for a secure career back home in Australia’s SSN program – the nation’s largest-ever industrial endeavour.

UK ROLES FOR SSN AUKUS BUILD PROGRAM

To apply, applicants must:
  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Be willing to live and train in Barrow-In-Furness, United Kingdom, for up to 2 years, depending on the role.
  • Be willing to return to work with ASC at Osborne, South Australia, as part of the SSN AUKUS Build program upon completion of the UK deployment.
  • Be eligible for an NV1 Level Australian Defence Security Clearance.
  • Be eligible to obtain an A2 working visa.
  • Meet other specific deployment requirements, which ASC can speak to you about during the interview process.

US ROLES FOR SSN SUSTAINMENT PROGRAM

To apply, applicants must:
  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Be willing to live and train in Hawaii, the United States, for between 12 months and 3 years, depending on the role. (Some roles may also involve completing placements in other US locations during the full course of the assignment.)
  • Be willing to return to work with ASC at Henderson, Western Australia, as part of Australia’s SSN Sustainment program upon completion of the US deployment.
  • Be eligible for an NV1 Level Australian Defence Security Clearance.
  • Be eligible to obtain an A2 working visa.
  • Meet other specific deployment requirements, which ASC can speak to you about during the interview process.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

We’re here to support you prior to departing for the UK or US and when you are overseas. As an ASC employee training in these countries, you will have access to a host of great benefits:

  • Be paid to live and train in the UK (Barrow-in-Furness) or US (locations include Pearl Harbor and Virginia) for the next 1-3 years (role-dependent), setting you up for a secure career back home in Australia.
  • Work on UK or US conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines and cutting-edge nuclear technology.
  • Undertake world-leading training in nuclear technology.
  • Have access to benefits and entitlements to support relocation and your time living and working overseas (such as cost-of-living allowances, housing assistance, family assistance).
  • Return home to a secure job in South Australia (following UK SSN AUKUS Build deployments) or Western Australia (following US SSN Sustainment deployments) in Australia’s SSN program.
  • Access to ASC’s standard employment benefits.

Australia’s conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarine program will be the greatest industrial undertaking the nation has ever embarked upon, both in scale and technical complexity. It’s estimated that the program, as a whole, will generate around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The program represents an incredible opportunity to build a uniquely fulfilling career, working on some of the world’s most advanced defence technology. Thousands of jobs will be created at ASC over the coming decades as the nuclear-powered submarine program evolves.
