The Life of Type Extension (LOTE) of the Collins Class submarine fleet will provide the nation with a potent, conventionally powered submarine capability into the 2030s.
The Collins Class are internationally regarded among the best conventional submarines in the world. ASC will continue to deliver high levels of submarine performance and availability to the Royal Australian Navy as the LOTE project is implemented.
During the project, ASC will replace the propulsion systems, diesel engines, generators, and the power conversion and distribution systems. There will also be a cooling system upgrade, and ASC will carry out a range of hull assessments. ASC will integrate the new equipment into the existing command and control system.
The LOTE will be implemented on all six submarines in the Collins Class fleet.
LOTE is currently in the detailed design phase and ASC is working closely with the Royal Australian Navy, the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), Australian suppliers and international partners to deliver the Navy’s specific requirements.
ASC is on schedule for the First of Class implementation with HMAS Farncomb, in 2026.
