The Collins Class submarine fleet’s Life of Type Extension (LOTE) will provide the nation with a potent, conventionally powered submarine capability into the 2030s.

The Collins boats are internationally regarded among the best conventional submarines in the world. ASC will continue to deliver high levels of submarine performance and availability to the Royal Australian Navy as the LOTE project is implemented.

Through the LOTE, ASC will pre-emptively address key reliability and obsolescence issues that may occur during the boats’ life extension periods, with support from original Collins Class designer Saab Kockums.

A LOTE will be implemented on each Collins submarine, with scope determined by Defence on a platform-by-platform basis.

ASC will undertake First of Class LOTE implementation in mid-2026, working closely with the Royal Australian Navy, Defence, Australian suppliers and international partners to deliver the Navy’s specific requirements.
