Behind every successful apprentice stands a dedicated network of people and resources working together to support their journey.
At ASC, we blend hands-on experience with structured guidance to give apprentices the tools they need to become highly skilled tradespeople working on Australia’s submarines.
Team Leads and Technical Experts
Each apprentice is embedded into a team, we call ‘crews’ – where they work closely with experienced tradespeople who understand the unique challenges of working on Australia’s submarines.
These mentors serve not only as role models but also as trusted guides, offering one-on-one support, sharing practical insights, and ensuring safety in this highly specialised environment.
“The opportunity to work in an effective and supportive team where the mindset is always ‘apprentice first’ is unbelievably rewarding,” says Nick, Technical Trade Trainer.
“The support we give our apprentices to help them reach their full potential is both unique and incredibly rewarding”

Early careers team and apprentice lead
At ASC, apprenticeships are more than just a path to mastering a trade – they’re about shaping confident, well-rounded tradespeople ready to thrive in the real world.
“It’s so exciting to see young people start their careers with us,” says Toni, Operations Support Lead.
“They bring fresh energy to the workforce and I’m proud to support them as they grow their skills and confidence.”
Starting a career can be daunting, especially in a large company. That’s why our Early Careers Team is here – to guide, mentor and support every apprentice along the way.
From offering career advice and goal-setting guidance to simply being a friendly face, the team is committed to helping apprentices turn their ambitions into achievements.
“ASC offers life-long opportunities for growth,” says Toni. “Seeing the pride on the faces of our apprentices and their families – that’s what makes it all worthwhile and why I love my job.”

Cohort community
The apprentice journey at ASC is one shared with many other young production workers.
Training as a cohort helps apprentices build strong connections with their peers. It encourages teamwork, a safety-first mindset, and creates a positive learning
environment where everyone can succeed together.

An investment into Australia’s defence
We believe that investing in apprentices is investing in the future of Australia’s future defence capability.
Our apprenticeship program is designed to do more than teach a trade – it’s built to help people thrive. We’ve created a strong support structure around every apprentice, giving them tools, guidance, and mentorship they need to succeed.
Because behind every skilled tradesperson is a team committed to helping them reach their full potential.
